🚗 By Car
- From Sydney:
If you’re starting your journey from Sydney, hop onto the M1 motorway heading south. Keep driving until you reach the Wollongong area.
Take the exit towards Lawrence Hargrave Drive and continue to the Sea Cliff Bridge. This drive is approximately 63 kilometres from Sydney’s CBD and takes 1 hour and 11 minutes. - From Wollongong:
Head north towards Princes Highway. Keep left to continue on Lawrence Hargrave Drive and drive until you reach the Sea Cliff Bridge.
This route is approximately 22 kilometres and takes about 30 minutes.
🚃 By Train
I highly recommend riding the train to the Sea Cliff Bridge if you don’t have a car.
There are many different routes to the Sea Cliff Bridge. Before leaving, it is better to plan and check the train timetable.
One common route is to take the train to Town Hall Station and get off at Waterfall Station. From Waterfall Station, wait for the next train to Scarborough Station.
The other route I recommend and personally took was the train ride from Central Station. From Central Station, get off at Helensburgh Station.
Wait a few minutes for the next train to Scarborough Station.
From Scarborough Station, it would take 21 minutes to walk to the Sea Cliff Bridge. This route would take approximately 2 hours from Sydney Central Station.
How to Find the Entrance to The Sea Cliff Bridge Lookout
The walkway leading to the lookout lacks any signage indicating its entrance. The important sign you should be attentive to is the one displaying “Sea Cliff Bridge.”
It is located at the southern end of the Sea Cliff Bridge, specifically on the side of the mountain.
If you travel from Wollongong or Scarborough Train Station, you will easily spot the sign as it faces your path just before you reach the bridge.
If you are driving from Sydney or walking from Coalcliff train station, you won’t notice the sign until you pass it and look back.
However, you will likely notice a couple of cars parked on your right side, right beside the sign.
Just before the ‘Sea Cliff Bridge’ sign, you will notice a hole in the bushes (refer to the picture below!)—this serves as the entrance to the Sea Cliff Bridge lookout!
How to Get to The Sea Cliff Bridge Lookout
After entering the bush area, it is recommended that you proceed uphill and towards the right on the dirt trail for most of the walk.
Keep an eye out for the yellow marks thoughtfully painted on the trees and the rope tied on the trees—they serve as helpful guides to keep you on the right path.
Please be aware that reaching the top will require some scrambling, as the path is quite steep!
Fortunately, there are numerous trees available to support and aid your ascent.
Additionally, in certain sections, large black hoses are attached to the trees, which can be used as helpful aids to pull yourself up.
Duration of the Walk to the Sea Cliff Bridge Lookout
The hike to the Sea Cliff Bridge lookout is remarkably short—perhaps just 10 minutes or even less!
When you observe pictures showcasing the distance to the viewpoint, it’s understandable if you find it hard to believe.
Nevertheless, most individuals can complete the climb within a mere 10 minutes.
However, it’s worth noting that the ascent is indeed steep, requiring some effort during the walk.
Parking at Seacliff Bridge Lookout
When coming from Sydney, please consider parking your vehicle in the designated parking spaces on the left side, approximately 100 meters away from the entrance.
After parking your vehicle, you need only carefully cross the road to see the sign “Sea Cliff Bridge.” As this is also another parking area, cars might be in this area.
